the story of
The Liggetts are a bedroom-pop family music project.
When the kids started taking music lessons a few years ago, Brad decided to learn how to play too. As the kids' talent grew, so did Brad's quixotic dreams of one day performing with them like an old-fashioned family band.
When a worldwide pandemic hit, Brad suddenly found himself with a lot of free time and a work-from-home space that could easily double as a home recording studio. He came up with the idea to write and record a song for each of his kids for their birthdays that year.
As the holidays were approaching, Brad thought it would be fun to send out a Christmas song instead of a Christmas card. Brad wrote “Christmas in Quarantine”, a song that celebrates the triumph of the Christmas spirit, no matter how crazy the circumstances.
As a lark, Brad decided to share the song by mailing it out as a CD single. Featuring fresh portraits of the family as the artwork, the CD went out to everyone on the family's mailing list. Brad loved hearing that his friends were amused to find a CD in their mailbox just like back in the Columbia House days. And some of them even said they liked the song.
Every winter since then, The Liggetts have tried to spread a little holiday cheer by giving their friends and family the gift of music.
In 2021, The Liggetts sent out a CD single for their anti-"Christmas Karen" anthem, “It’s Christmas Time Again”. The family filmed a music video that tells the story of a man who, possessed with a magical holiday spirit, recruits his children and their friends to spread the good tidings of all winter holidays to the neighborhood.
On December 5, 2022, The Liggetts dropped a surprise, self-titled debut album. The CD they mailed out included 13 hidden tracks that could be discovered by waiting for the CD to play tracks 86 through 99. The bonus tracks are an audio commentary for each song on the album plus a fully Spanish version of the album’s third song. The bonus tracks have since been released as a spoken word album.
For 2023, The Liggetts put their spin on a holiday classic with "We Wish You a Liggy Christmas". Breaking with tradition, Brad mailed a postcard picturing the single's front and back covers instead of a CD (with apologies to all who were disappointed to not receive the song on an obsolete physical medium).
In 2024, The Liggetts began performing their first live shows. On December 22, 2024, The Liggetts performed for a sell-out crowd at Farmhouse Corner Market in San Luis Obispo, California. The band premiered all the original songs from their debut album and covered some of their favorite artists ranging from Depeche Mode to Chappell Roan.
